i can understand getting into cultures different from ur own, i like to do that myself, but her mexican fetish is for the lowest of the low class... it would be like a mexican person coming to america and idolizing
white trash in the trailer park and getting into frying up bologna boats as if it were some sort of vital cultural exchange.
she really doesn't know much about mexican culture and history and neither does that damn bum of hers.

ReplyDeleteYou're right Bummi, his idea of "Mexican" is heavily informed by sleazy lucha libre/telenovela culture. It's as if places like Teotihuacan, the DF, Guadalajara, and San Miguel de Allende didn't exist and all of Mexico was shitty, lawless Border towns like Juarez and Tiajuana.
Hooray! Y'all got the point I was trying to make. Sybil's glorification of all things Mexican isn't founded on a real understanding and interest of the culture. It's pure fetishization based on ignorance, with most of the info gathered from tv and porn sites. And adding chopped jalapenos to everything she cooks. Mexicans aren't "real people" to her as much as they are objects to drool over, especially if they're thuggy.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely tequila for "margaritas", and lots of cheap-ass Natty Ice. With lemons, of course. Because the bum is such a sophisticated drinker.
